You’ll work outdoors, gaining valuable hands-on experience across a diverse range of municipal projects, from road maintenance and park upkeep to water and sewer system support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced staff with the maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks, and pathways, including patching, crack sealing, and general upkeep.
  • Participate in landscape maintenance activities such as mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, and tree care in public parks and green spaces.
  • Support the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems, including assisting with pipe laying, valve operation, and leak detection.
  • Perform general labor duties, including digging, lifting, carrying materials, and operating basic hand and power tools under supervision.
  • Assist with traffic control setup and removal for work zones, ensuring public and worker safety.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures, utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Participate in winter operations, including snow removal, sanding, and de-icing as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and to high standards.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and willingness to learn to operate power equipment.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor, manual labor, or construction environment (even if informal).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or experience with basic vehicle/equipment maintenance.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
