You will be responsible for the holistic assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring all actions align with current best practices, CQC regulations, and our internal policies. This encompasses a broad spectrum of nursing duties, from performing comprehensive patient assessments upon admission, developing individualized care plans in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team, to administering medications safely and accurately according to prescribed guidelines. Your role will involve managing complex wounds, monitoring vital signs, operating and maintaining medical equipment, and preparing patients for various procedures, always ensuring their comfort and understanding. Providing essential health education to patients and their families, as well as offering crucial emotional support during challenging times, will also be a core part of your daily activities.

This role demands a proactive individual with excellent communication skills, capable of interacting effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and a diverse range of healthcare professionals including doctors, allied health professionals, and support staff. You will be expected to maintain meticulous and accurate patient records, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and compliant with data protection regulations. The ability to prioritize tasks efficiently under pressure, respond effectively and calmly to emergency situations, and demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities is paramount. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately according to prescribed guidelines and hospital policies.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, observing and documenting patient conditions, reporting changes to medical staff promptly.
  • Provide wound care, perform catheterizations, and assist with other medical procedures as required.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Respond to emergency situations, providing immediate and appropriate care.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Participate in ward meetings, handovers, and continuous professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in the UK.
  • Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrable clinical proficiency in patient assessment, medication administration, and basic life support.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialist qualification in a specific nursing area (e.g., ITU, A&E, Surgical).
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Experience with mentorship or preceptorship.
  • Familiarity with CQC regulations and clinical governance frameworks.
  • Post-graduate certificate or diploma in a relevant field.
