Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and execute innovative and engaging exhibition programs aligned with the gallery's mission.
  • Manage the gallery's permanent art collection, including acquisition, conservation, documentation, and strategic display.
  • Conduct thorough research on artists, artworks, and exhibition themes, contributing to scholarly publications and public programs.
  • Write compelling exhibition texts, catalogue essays, educational materials, and interpretive content.
  • Collaborate with artists, designers, conservators, and other professionals to successfully realize exhibitions from concept to installation.
  • Develop and facilitate public programs, workshops, lectures, and guided tours that enhance visitor engagement and understanding.
  • Manage exhibition budgets, timelines, and logistics effectively, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within financial parameters.
  • Represent the gallery at local, national, and international art events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Engage with the community, fostering partnerships with local organizations, Indigenous communities, and educational institutions.
  • Supervise the installation and de-installation processes for all exhibitions, ensuring proper art handling and safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in exhibition development and curatorial practice within a gallery or museum setting.
  • Strong knowledge of art history, contemporary art trends, and established curatorial theory.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and deadlines independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in collection management software and digital content creation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Confident public speaking and presentation abilities for tours, lectures, and media engagements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Specific experience with Northern Canadian art, Indigenous art, or heritage collections.
  • Familiarity with the cultural landscape of the Yukon Territory or similar remote artistic regions.
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or securing exhibition sponsorships.
  • Proficiency in a second language, particularly French or local Indigenous languages.
