Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging educational programs, workshops, and guided tours for diverse audiences, including school groups, families, and the general public.
  • Interpret museum collections and exhibitions through interactive activities and compelling narratives.
  • Adapt educational content and delivery methods to suit various age groups and learning styles.
  • Assist in the creation of educational materials, including activity guides, worksheets, and online resources.
  • Train and supervise volunteers or interns assisting with educational programs.
  • Collaborate with curatorial, visitor services, and marketing teams to promote and enhance educational offerings.
  • Ensure the safety and enjoyment of program participants while adhering to museum policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Stay current with best practices in museum education and relevant historical/cultural research.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in education, museum programming, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging educational content to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with children and adults.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate varying program needs and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies, History, Arts, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with formal and informal learning environments.
  • Knowledge of local history and culture in Hamilton, Ontario.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.
