Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Actuary to join our growing team in Gloucester. This pivotal full-time role will involve complex quantitative analysis, risk modeling, and strategic advice within our dynamic financial services division. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models for pricing, reserving, capital management, and solvency assessment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform in-depth data analysis to identify trends, evaluate risks, and provide data-driven insights to inform strategic business decisions.
  • Prepare detailed actuarial reports, presentations, and comprehensive analyses for internal stakeholders and external regulators, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to design, review, and assess new insurance products, ensuring actuarial soundness and profitability.
  • Provide expert actuarial advice on risk mitigation strategies, capital allocation, and business planning initiatives.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with relevant actuarial standards, local regulations (e.g., PRA, FCA), and industry best practices.
  • Mentor junior actuarial staff, fostering their professional development and contributing to their growth within the team.
  • Participate actively in internal and external actuarial committees and working groups to share expertise and influence industry direction.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of actuarial processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Required Skills

  • Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA/FFA) or an equivalent internationally recognized actuarial qualification (e.g., FSA, FCAS).
  • Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience in a relevant actuarial role within the insurance or broader financial services industry.
  • Strong proficiency in actuarial modeling software (e.g., Prophet, MoSes, Igloo, or advanced experience with Python/R for actuarial applications).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VBA programming for complex calculations and data manipulation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Solid understanding of UK financial regulations, particularly Solvency II.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning techniques and predictive analytics in an actuarial context.
  • Familiarity with IFRS 17 implementation and reporting standards.
  • Proven project management experience within actuarial or financial projects.
  • A postgraduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Specialized experience in a specific line of business, such as life, general, health insurance, or pensions.
