Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough pre-anesthetic evaluations, including medical history review, physical examination, and risk assessment.
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive anesthesia plans tailored to individual patient needs and surgical requirements.
  • Administer various types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and local, using appropriate techniques and monitoring equipment.
  • Continuously monitor patient vital signs, physiological responses, and anesthetic depth throughout surgical procedures.
  • Manage perioperative pain and provide immediate post-anesthetic care and consultation.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary arrest and adverse drug reactions.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and safe patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality assurance programs, and continuing medical education.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding anesthesia procedures, risks, and post-operative expectations.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, residents, or fellows as required.

Required Skills

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or equivalent.
  • Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Anesthesiology.
  • Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-residency clinical experience as a practicing Anesthesiologist.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex anesthesia cases across various surgical subspecialties.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
  • Proficiency in advanced airway management techniques.
  • Commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship training in a specialized area such as Cardiac Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, or Pain Management.
  • Experience with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) applications in anesthesia.
  • Participation in medical research or publications.
  • Leadership experience in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages, particularly French, for enhanced patient communication.
