Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and vigilant Asset Protection professional to join our team in the Woodbine-Lumsden area of Toronto. In this critical on-site role, you will be instrumental in safeguarding our company’s assets, minimizing loss, and ensuring a safe and secure shopping environment for our customers and employees. This position demands a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential security risks, investigating incidents, and implementing effective loss prevention strategies.
As an Asset Protection specialist, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our retail operations. You will be responsible for observing customer and employee activity, identifying suspicious behaviors, and acting swiftly and professionally to prevent theft and fraud. Beyond reactive measures, you will contribute to a culture of prevention through visible deterrence, educating staff on security protocols, and fostering a strong awareness of loss prevention best practices across the store. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct overt and covert surveillance using CCTV and floor observation techniques to detect and deter theft.
- Respond to and investigate internal and external theft incidents, ensuring proper documentation and evidence collection.
- Apprehend individuals engaged in shoplifting or other dishonest activities in accordance with company policy and legal guidelines.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement to prosecute criminal cases and represent the company in legal proceedings when required.
- Implement and monitor loss prevention policies and procedures, ensuring compliance by all staff members.
- Provide training and guidance to retail staff on loss prevention best practices, safety procedures, and risk awareness.
- Conduct regular audits of cash handling, inventory control, and operational procedures to identify and address vulnerabilities.
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports on all incidents, investigations, and daily activities.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and employees by promptly addressing safety hazards and security breaches.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in retail asset protection or loss prevention.
- Proven ability to conduct effective surveillance and investigations.
- Strong understanding of retail security systems and CCTV operation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle confrontational situations professionally.
- Proficiency in report writing and incident documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Knowledge of relevant legal statutes pertaining to theft, apprehension, and evidence handling in Ontario.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field.
- Loss Prevention Certified (LPC) or Loss Prevention Qualified (LPQ) certification.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with various inventory management and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
