Job Description

As a Behavioral Health Technician on our vital Night Shift team, you will play an indispensable role in providing compassionate, direct care and support to individuals navigating various behavioral and mental health challenges. Your presence during these crucial overnight hours ensures a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for our clients. This demanding yet profoundly rewarding position requires vigilance, empathy, and a proactive approach to client well-being. Your keen observational skills will be critical in identifying potential risks, implementing de-escalation strategies, and documenting all interactions and observations accurately. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and support to clients during night hours, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Monitor client behavior and mental status, observing for any changes and intervening as necessary with appropriate techniques.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) as required, promoting independence and dignity.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and environmental scans to ensure a secure milieu for all clients and staff.
  • Document client observations, interventions, and progress accurately and timely in accordance with facility policies.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions and de-escalation techniques during crises, prioritizing client and staff safety.
  • Administer medication reminders and ensure compliance with prescribed treatment plans under supervision.
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing staff and other clinical team members, providing comprehensive updates and insights.
  • Facilitate a structured and supportive environment conducive to client recovery and personal growth.
  • Participate in shift change reports, providing thorough and concise updates on client status and significant events.

Required Skills

  • Excellent observation and active listening skills, particularly in low-stimulus environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities for effective interaction and documentation.
  • Proficiency in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and strict client confidentiality.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach towards individuals with mental health challenges.
  • Basic computer literacy for electronic health record (EHR) documentation.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and assist clients as needed throughout the night shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Social Service Worker, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, Personal Support Worker).
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of common mental health diagnoses and evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Previous experience working in a behavioral health or residential care setting, especially on night shifts.
