Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our dedicated finance team in Henleaze, Bristol. This pivotal role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing payroll processes, handling invoicing, and ensuring all transactions are meticulously recorded and compliant with relevant regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process payroll accurately and on time, including PAYE, pensions, and national insurance contributions.
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts by reconciling balance sheet accounts and preparing journal entries.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing necessary reports and documentation.
  • Manage expense reports and petty cash reconciliation.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Liaise with clients and suppliers regarding payment queries and invoice discrepancies.
  • Ensure confidentiality and integrity of all financial data.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role.
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Experience with payroll processing and relevant tax regulations (PAYE).
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports.
  • Data entry skills coupled with a knack for numbers.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working within an accounting practice or a multi-client environment.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance in the UK.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting platforms.
