Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join Canada’s front line as Border Services Officers (BSO). This is a critical government role, vital for ensuring the safety and security of our nation while facilitating legitimate trade and travel. As a BSO, you will be the face of Canada at various points of entry, including airports, land borders, marine ports, and mail processing centers. Your primary responsibility will be to enforce Canadian laws and regulations, including the Customs Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and other relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities
- Interpreting and enforcing Canadian laws and regulations related to customs, immigration, and food inspection at various points of entry.
- Examining traveler documents, conducting interviews, and verifying declarations for both individuals and commercial goods.
- Conducting searches of persons, vehicles, and baggage for prohibited or restricted items, including narcotics, firearms, and currency.
- Detecting and preventing illegal activities such as smuggling, human trafficking, and other cross-border crimes.
- Collecting duties, taxes, and fines, and ensuring compliance with import/export requirements.
- Making independent decisions regarding admissibility of persons and goods into Canada based on policy and legislation.
- Providing professional and courteous client service to the traveling public and commercial stakeholders.
- Maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and testifying in court when necessary.
- Operating and maintaining specialized equipment and technology pertinent to border security operations.
- Participating in continuous training and professional development programs to stay current with evolving threats and procedures.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in complex situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (proficiency in French is a strong asset).
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail for identifying anomalies and suspicious behavior.
- High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.

- Proficiency in basic computer applications and willingness to learn specialized software.

Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education (college diploma or university degree) in a related field such as criminology, law enforcement, security studies, or social sciences.
- Experience in law enforcement, security, investigations, or a related public service field.
- Proficiency in both official languages of Canada (English and French).
- Valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for restricted firearms.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
