Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural elements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and address potential issues proactively, ensuring optimal operating conditions.
  • Assist skilled tradespeople (electricians, plumbers, carpenters) with larger maintenance and repair projects, learning and contributing to more complex tasks.
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical failures and implement immediate corrective actions to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Execute preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems to extend their lifespan and ensure efficiency.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, workshops, and storage facilities, adhering to safety standards.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and tenants, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication.
  • Operate and maintain various hand and power tools safely and efficiently, following all operational guidelines.
  • Assist with groundskeeping tasks, including snow removal, landscaping, and waste management, as needed, to maintain exterior aesthetics and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, building codes, and company policies, promoting a secure working environment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in building maintenance or a related trade (minimum 2 years).
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff and tenants.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) for clear communication and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade certification or vocational training in a relevant field (e.g., general maintenance, electrical, plumbing).
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) or smart building technologies.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working in a commercial, industrial, or multi-tenant residential facility.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and safety regulations in Ontario.
