Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a passenger bus on designated routes within Stocksbridge, Sheffield, and surrounding areas.
  • Adhere strictly to published timetables and schedules, ensuring punctuality for passenger connections.
  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with enquiries, directions, and ensuring a pleasant journey for all.
  • Accurately collect fares, issue tickets, and manage cash and card payments using onboard systems.
  • Conduct thorough pre-service and post-service vehicle checks, promptly reporting any defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and welcoming bus interior for all passengers.
  • Comply with all traffic laws, company policies, and health & safety regulations at all times.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities, ensuring accessibility and comfort according to company guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with depot staff, control centre, and passengers.
  • Handle emergencies, breakdowns, or incidents professionally and safely, following established company procedures.

Required Skills

  • Full UK PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) Licence (Category D)
  • Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification
  • Proven experience as a professional bus or coach driver (minimum 12 months)
  • Clean driving record with no more than 3 penalty points
  • Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and driving laws
  • Strong navigational skills and ability to follow routes precisely
  • Exceptional customer service and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • High level of punctuality, reliability, and responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Local knowledge of Stocksbridge, Sheffield, and surrounding areas
  • First Aid certification
  • Experience with electronic ticketing systems and fare collection technology
  • Demonstrated positive attitude and a calm demeanour under pressure
