Job Description

This is a pivotal role for a talented Camera Operator eager to capture stunning visuals both within our cutting-edge studio environment and across varied field locations. You’ll be responsible for setting up and operating a range of professional camera equipment, including DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, cinema cameras, and associated accessories like gimbals, sliders, dollies, and drone systems (where applicable and licensed).

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate professional video cameras, lighting, and audio equipment for both studio-based and on-location shoots.
  • Collaborate with directors, producers, and creative teams to understand project vision and execute camera plans effectively.
  • Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot camera equipment, lenses, gimbals, sliders, tripods, and other necessary accessories.
  • Ensure optimal shot composition, framing, focus, exposure, and white balance according to creative and technical specifications.
  • Conduct pre-shoot checks, manage equipment inventory, and perform routine maintenance to ensure readiness and functionality.
  • Adapt quickly to dynamic shooting environments, managing technical challenges and changes in conditions.
  • Capture high-quality, stable, and aesthetically pleasing footage for a variety of content types including interviews, events, documentaries, and promotional videos.
  • Assist with basic lighting setups and audio recording as needed, ensuring professional production standards.
  • Adhere to production schedules, health and safety guidelines, and company policies.
  • Participate in post-production discussions, offering insights to streamline editing workflows.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Camera Operator in a professional studio and field setting.
  • Strong technical proficiency with various professional camera systems (e.g., Sony, Canon, Blackmagic) and lenses.
  • In-depth understanding of cinematography principles, including lighting, composition, focus pulling, and camera movement.
  • Ability to set up and operate auxiliary camera equipment (e.g., gimbals, sliders, dollies, monitors).
  • Familiarity with different video formats, frame rates, and resolutions.
  • Excellent visual storytelling capabilities and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to fast-paced, unpredictable environments.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with a production team.
  • Physical ability to carry and operate camera equipment, sometimes for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or certification in Film Production, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with drone operation (FAA Part 107 or equivalent national license preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic audio recording techniques and equipment.
  • Proficiency in setting up and adjusting studio lighting for various scenarios.
  • Familiarity with live streaming setups and multi-camera productions.
  • Portfolio or showreel demonstrating diverse camera operating experience.
  • Full UK driving license.
