Job Description

We are seeking a highly dedicated and proactive Caretaker to join a thriving school facility in Shirehampton, Bristol. This pivotal role involves ensuring the school premises are maintained to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency, creating an optimal environment for learning and teaching. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks including minor repairs, painting, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Ensure the school premises and grounds are clean, tidy, and well-maintained at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, and alarm systems, reporting any defects promptly.
  • Manage the security of the school buildings and grounds, including locking and unlocking procedures.
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks, identifying and addressing potential hazards.
  • Oversee external contractors working on-site, ensuring adherence to school policies and safety standards.
  • Manage stock levels of cleaning supplies and maintenance materials, placing orders as needed.
  • Support the setup and clear-down of facilities for school events, assemblies, and meetings.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs outside of normal working hours as required.
  • Assist with waste management and recycling initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and contractor visits.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a caretaker, facilities management, or maintenance role.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations (e.g., COSHH, fire safety).
  • Proficiency in performing minor repairs across various trades (e.g., plumbing, electrics, carpentry).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Physical fitness to undertake manual tasks, including lifting and carrying.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid, clean UK driving license.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience working within an educational setting.
  • Relevant trade qualifications (e.g., NVQ in Facilities Management or Maintenance).
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for children and young people.
