Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Carpenter specializing in Woodwork & Furniture to join our growing team in Walkley, Sheffield. As our Carpenter, you will be instrumental in all stages of furniture production and custom woodworking. Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create detailed woodworking and furniture components.
  • Select, measure, cut, shape, and join wood materials using a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Construct and assemble furniture, cabinets, doors, frames, and other wooden structures with precision.
  • Perform intricate joinery tasks, including dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, and mitre joints.
  • Finish surfaces by sanding, staining, varnishing, and polishing to achieve desired aesthetic and protective qualities.
  • Install hardware such as hinges, handles, and locks accurately.
  • Maintain and clean tools, equipment, and the workshop area, adhering to strict safety protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, clients, and other team members to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to wood defects, measurements, or design challenges.
  • Monitor inventory of materials and communicate needs for restocking.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in carpentry, joinery, and furniture making.
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of hand tools (chisels, planes, saws) and power tools (routers, sanders, circular saws, jointers, planers).
  • Strong understanding of different wood types, their properties, and best uses.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision in measurements and cuts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Knowledge of woodworking safety standards and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Site Carpentry, Bench Joinery, or a related field.
  • Experience with bespoke furniture design and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with CNC machinery and software for woodworking (an advantage).
  • Portfolio showcasing previous woodworking and furniture projects.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • First Aid certification.
