Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create detailed woodworking and furniture components.
- Select, measure, cut, shape, and join wood materials using a variety of hand tools and power tools.
- Construct and assemble furniture, cabinets, doors, frames, and other wooden structures with precision.
- Perform intricate joinery tasks, including dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, and mitre joints.
- Finish surfaces by sanding, staining, varnishing, and polishing to achieve desired aesthetic and protective qualities.
- Install hardware such as hinges, handles, and locks accurately.
- Maintain and clean tools, equipment, and the workshop area, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with designers, clients, and other team members to ensure project specifications are met.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to wood defects, measurements, or design challenges.
- Monitor inventory of materials and communicate needs for restocking.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in carpentry, joinery, and furniture making.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of hand tools (chisels, planes, saws) and power tools (routers, sanders, circular saws, jointers, planers).
- Strong understanding of different wood types, their properties, and best uses.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision in measurements and cuts.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Knowledge of woodworking safety standards and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Site Carpentry, Bench Joinery, or a related field.
- Experience with bespoke furniture design and fabrication.
- Familiarity with CNC machinery and software for woodworking (an advantage).
- Portfolio showcasing previous woodworking and furniture projects.
- Valid UK driving license.
- First Aid certification.
