Key Responsibilities

  • Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Handle cash, credit, debit, and other payment methods securely and correctly, maintaining proper till balances.
  • Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, attentive service throughout their checkout experience.
  • Answer customer questions regarding products, promotions, and store policies with clarity and helpfulness.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area, including merchandising impulse items.
  • Assist with bagging merchandise carefully and ensuring items are packed appropriately for customer convenience.
  • Verify age for restricted products (e.g., alcohol, tobacco) where applicable, adhering to legal guidelines.
  • Resolve minor customer issues or complaints with professionalism, escalating complex situations to management as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive store environment by working collaboratively and supportively with all team members.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including strict loss prevention guidelines and cash handling protocols.

Required Skills

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for clear customer interaction.
  • Basic math skills and proven ability to handle cash and process transactions accurately.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks, particularly financial.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment, managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 15 kg (33 lbs) to assist with stocking or bagging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6+ months) as a Cashier or Check Out Operator in a retail setting.
  • Familiarity with various point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer literacy.
  • Experience handling customer inquiries, returns, and resolving minor issues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational background.
