Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Industrial Chemist to join our dynamic research and development team in Lions Bay, British Columbia. As an Industrial Chemist at Hiring.zycto, you will be instrumental in the full lifecycle of product development, from initial concept and synthesis to optimization and scale-up for commercial production. This role requires a strong theoretical background in chemistry combined with practical laboratory experience and a keen understanding of industrial processes and safety protocols. You will be responsible for designing and executing experiments, analyzing results, and interpreting data to drive product innovation and improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel chemical compounds and formulations.
  • Develop and optimize chemical processes for improved yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness at an industrial scale.
  • Perform extensive analytical testing using techniques such as Spectroscopy (FTIR, UV-Vis), Chromatography (GC, HPLC), and other relevant methods.
  • Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, preparing detailed reports and presentations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality control, to ensure seamless product development and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Contribute to the troubleshooting of production issues and implement corrective actions based on chemical principles.
  • Stay abreast of new scientific literature, technologies, and industry trends to inform research and development strategies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality standards within the laboratory and pilot plant.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all experimental procedures, observations, and results.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience in chemical synthesis, process development, or formulation chemistry.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of analytical techniques (e.g., GC, HPLC, FTIR, NMR, UV-Vis).
  • Strong understanding of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments, troubleshoot, and solve complex technical problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety protocols and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with process optimization software and statistical analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in chemical manufacturing (e.g., REACH, GHS).
  • Previous experience with scale-up and pilot plant operations.
  • Experience in specific industries such as polymers, coatings, specialty chemicals, or pharmaceuticals.
