Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of insurance claims from initial report to final resolution, ensuring timely and fair processing.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, gather all necessary documentation, and accurately assess policy coverage and liability.
  • Communicate clearly, empathetically, and consistently with policyholders, claimants, and third parties, providing regular updates and managing expectations.
  • Negotiate fair and equitable settlements, adhering strictly to company guidelines, industry best practices, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, maintain meticulous records, and ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and internal standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including legal, underwriting, and customer service, to optimize claims processing and enhance the overall client experience.
  • Proactively identify and flag potential fraudulent claims, escalating situations as necessary to protect company assets and maintain integrity.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiencies, and enhanced customer satisfaction within the claims department.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Claims Specialist or a similar role within the insurance industry.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities to navigate complex claim scenarios.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities, with a focus on achieving mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Proficiency in claims management software and a solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume workload effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail under pressure.
  • Deep understanding of insurance policies, coverage forms, industry regulations, and legal requirements specific to Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an industry designation such as Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), CRM, or similar.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific claims management platforms (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek) is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English and French or other relevant languages for Toronto's diverse population) is highly valued.
  • A proven track record of exceeding customer satisfaction targets and contributing to positive client outcomes.
