Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls in line with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze new and revised banking regulations (e.g., OSFI, FINTRAC, FCAC) to assess impact on business operations and ensure timely adaptation.
  • Conduct regular compliance risk assessments across various banking functions, identifying potential areas of non-compliance and recommending corrective actions.
  • Oversee and manage the firm's anti-money laundering (AML) and anti-terrorist financing (ATF) programs, ensuring adherence to FINTRAC guidelines.
  • Provide expert compliance advice and guidance to business units, senior management, and staff on regulatory matters and compliance risks.
  • Prepare comprehensive compliance reports for senior management, board committees, and regulatory bodies.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs to educate employees on their regulatory obligations and internal policies.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for regulatory examinations and audits, facilitating information requests and ensuring accurate responses.
  • Investigate and resolve compliance issues, complaints, and breaches, ensuring appropriate remedial actions are taken and documented.
  • Stay abreast of global regulatory trends and industry developments, proactively identifying potential implications for the company.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in compliance within the banking or financial services industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian banking regulations, including OSFI guidelines, FINTRAC requirements, and consumer protection legislation.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex regulatory frameworks and translate them into practical business solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, ethical conduct, and professional judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Law, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Compliance Professional (CCP), or equivalent.
  • Experience with compliance management systems and risk assessment tools.
  • Previous experience interacting with regulatory bodies such as OSFI or FINTRAC.
  • Master's degree or Juris Doctor (JD).
