Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Compliance Manager – HR to join our growing team in West Don Lands, Toronto. This pivotal role will be critical in ensuring that all HR operations, policies, and practices strictly adhere to federal, provincial, and municipal employment laws and regulations. You will be instrumental in safeguarding our organization from potential compliance risks while simultaneously fostering a fair, equitable, and transparent workplace for all employees. As our Compliance Manager – HR, you will be the primary authority on all matters relating to HR compliance, working closely with senior leadership, the legal department, and various HR functions. Your day-to-day will involve conducting regular compliance audits, identifying potential areas of risk, and proactively developing strategies to address them. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in alignment with federal, provincial (Ontario), and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., ESA, OHRC, AODA).
  • Conduct regular HR compliance audits to identify and mitigate potential risks and ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulations.
  • Monitor changes in employment laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the organization and proactively recommending necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
  • Lead and manage internal investigations into HR compliance matters, including workplace harassment, discrimination, and policy violations, ensuring fair and timely resolution.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for employees and management on HR compliance topics, ethical conduct, and workplace policies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external regulatory bodies regarding HR compliance inquiries and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to address complex compliance issues and represent the organization in compliance-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records related to compliance activities, investigations, and policy acknowledgements.
  • Provide expert guidance and consultation to HR business partners and line managers on compliance best practices and risk management.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of all required HR compliance reports (e.g., pay equity, employment equity).

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in Canadian (federal and Ontario provincial) employment law and HR regulations.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply complex legal statutes to HR policies and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and impartial investigations.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and data analysis for compliance reporting.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical conduct.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CHRP/CHRL designation or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., financial services, healthcare).
  • Familiarity with global HR compliance standards, if applicable to the company's future growth.
  • Experience with HR compliance software or tools.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
