Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and procedures in accordance with relevant Canadian and international laws and regulations.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assessing their impact on the company's operations and recommending necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
- Conduct regular internal compliance audits, risk assessments, and reviews to identify potential areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide expert legal and regulatory advice to various departments on compliance matters, risk mitigation strategies, and best practices.
- Design and deliver targeted compliance training programs to employees at all levels, fostering a strong culture of ethical conduct and regulatory awareness.
- Manage and oversee compliance reporting requirements to internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.
- Investigate reported compliance breaches or incidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend disciplinary actions or remediation strategies.
- Act as a primary liaison with external legal counsel, auditors, and regulatory authorities on compliance-related inquiries and examinations.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in legal compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related field, preferably within a corporate or financial services environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks, including privacy laws (e.g., PIPEDA), anti-money laundering (AML) regulations (e.g., FINTRAC), and consumer protection legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legal texts and translate them into practical, actionable policies and procedures.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- High level of integrity, professional ethics, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Compliance (e.g., CCO, CAMS, CRCM).
- Experience in a specific regulated industry such as financial services, technology, or telecommunications.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is a significant asset.
