Hiring.zycto is proud to facilitate the search for a dedicated and experienced Crown Attorney to join the public service within the Barrhaven, Ottawa region. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct criminal prosecutions on behalf of the Crown, including trials, preliminary inquiries, and appeals.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to law enforcement agencies on criminal investigations and charge approvals.
  • Manage a demanding caseload efficiently, prioritizing matters, and adhering to strict legal timelines.
  • Prepare comprehensive legal documents, including indictments, briefs, and legal submissions.
  • Engage in plea negotiations and resolution discussions with defense counsel, ensuring fair and just outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with court staff, victims, witnesses, and other justice partners to facilitate the judicial process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of criminal law, procedure, and relevant legal precedents.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, ethics, and integrity at all times.

Required Skills

  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-call experience practicing criminal law.
  • Proven extensive knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and relevant provincial statutes.
  • Demonstrated strong trial advocacy and courtroom litigation skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, research, and legal reasoning abilities.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal arguments clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a Crown Attorney or Assistant Crown Attorney.
  • Experience with complex prosecutions, including cases involving organized crime, cybercrime, or significant financial fraud.
  • Proficiency in both English and French (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or experience mentoring junior legal professionals.
