Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed customs brokers with the preparation and submission of customs declarations and related documentation.
- Learn to classify goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) and determine applicable duties and taxes.
- Research and interpret customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements to ensure compliance.
- Communicate with clients, carriers, and government agencies to obtain necessary information and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of customs entries and client interactions.
- Support the team in auditing customs entries for accuracy and completeness.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to deepen understanding of customs brokerage practices.
- Assist with freight tracing, shipment tracking, and problem-solving related to international shipments.
- Develop a strong understanding of customs valuation, origin determination, and Free Trade Agreement rules.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the customs brokerage department.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
