Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Data Center Technician to join our dynamic IT team in Corydon Village, Winnipeg. This critical, hands-on role involves the daily operation, maintenance, and support of our vital data center infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of our systems around the clock. As a Data Center Technician, you will be at the heart of our operations, working directly with cutting-edge hardware, including servers, storage arrays, network devices, and intricate cabling systems, contributing significantly to the seamless functioning of our digital ecosystem. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot server, network, and storage hardware in a data center environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and replacements of data center equipment.
  • Execute physical layer troubleshooting, including fiber and copper cabling verification and repair.
  • Monitor data center infrastructure (power, cooling, environmental conditions) and respond to alerts.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all data center assets and update documentation regularly.
  • Provide 'remote hands' support for internal teams and external vendors.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and operational procedures within the data center.
  • Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, and other IT personnel to resolve issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide support during off-hours as needed.
  • Assist in the deployment and decommissioning of racks, servers, and network devices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a data center or IT infrastructure role.
  • Strong understanding of server hardware (rack-mount, blade systems) and components.
  • Proficiency with network cabling standards (Cat6, fiber optic) and tools.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls).
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues efficiently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a data center environment (standing, bending, climbing ladders).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA, ITIL Foundation).
  • Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Experience with enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS).
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
