Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Dental Assistant to join our dynamic team in Deptford, London. As a Dental Assistant specializing in Surgery & Hygiene Support, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our clinic, contributing directly to a positive patient experience and the overall success of our dental professionals.

Your primary focus will be to provide comprehensive chair-side assistance during a wide range of dental procedures, from routine check-ups and restorative work to more complex surgical interventions. This includes preparing the operatory, sterilizing instruments, anticipating the dentist’s needs, and providing comforting support to patients. Beyond the immediate clinical duties, you will play a crucial role in maintaining meticulous patient records, managing inventory for dental supplies, and adhering to the highest standards of infection control and patient confidentiality. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive chair-side assistance to dentists during various dental procedures, including restorative, endodontic, prosthetic, surgical, and hygiene appointments.
  • Prepare and maintain the operatory with all necessary instruments, materials, and equipment, ensuring a sterile and organized environment.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment in accordance with strict infection control protocols and health and safety guidelines.
  • Perform detailed patient pre-assessments, including taking and recording vital signs and medical histories.
  • Accurately take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as instructed by the dentist.
  • Educate patients on post-operative care, oral hygiene instructions, and dietary recommendations.
  • Manage and maintain dental inventory, ordering supplies as needed to ensure continuous operation.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and handling administrative tasks.
  • Provide empathetic support and comfort to patients, ensuring a positive and stress-free experience.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient charts and records, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with dentists, hygienists, and administrative staff to optimize patient flow and care.

Required Skills

  • GDC registration and relevant dental assisting qualification (e.g., NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Dental Assistant, with proven exposure to surgical and hygiene support.
  • Proficiency in dental radiography and knowledge of radiation safety protocols.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to HTM 01-05 decontamination guidelines and cross-infection control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using dental software and digital charting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specialized dental software (e.g., Dentally, SOE Exact).
  • Additional certifications in advanced dental procedures or sedation.
  • First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A track record of continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus, catering to our diverse patient base.
