Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel trucks, engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct thorough preventative maintenance inspections and services, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and general component lubrication.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic software and specialized equipment to pinpoint mechanical and electrical issues accurately and efficiently.
- Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins to ensure proper repair procedures are consistently followed.
- Perform routine safety checks and inspections in accordance with company policies and all relevant regulatory standards (e.g., CVSE, DOT).
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and thoroughly using our integrated fleet management system.
- Order and manage parts inventory, ensuring efficient workflow, timely repairs, and cost-effective solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, fleet managers, and vehicle operators to coordinate repairs and minimize operational downtime.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations on vehicle performance and potential mechanical improvements.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development programs to stay current with industry advancements and new technologies.
Required Skills
- Journeyman Red Seal Diesel Engine Mechanic certification or equivalent recognized provincial trade qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience with heavy-duty diesel truck repair and maintenance.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with various diagnostic software and tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link, CAT ET).
- Excellent understanding of engine, transmission, brake, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver's License with air brake endorsement (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Unwavering commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific truck brands such as Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, or International.
- Demonstrated experience with trailer repair and maintenance, including ABS systems.
- Proficiency in welding and fabrication techniques relevant to heavy equipment.
- Post-secondary education or advanced technical training in Heavy Duty Mechanics.
- Familiarity with modern fleet management software and digital record-keeping.
