Job Description

Are you a seasoned filmmaker with a passion for history, art, and cultural storytelling? Hiring.zycto is actively seeking an imaginative and strategic Director – Film to spearhead cinematic initiatives for the renowned Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) in Brampton. This pivotal role involves conceptualizing, developing, and overseeing the production of compelling film content that brings PAMA’s diverse collections, exhibitions, and community engagement stories to life.

The Director – Film will be instrumental in defining PAMA’s cinematic vision, producing high-quality documentaries, interpretive films for exhibitions, educational content, and engaging digital narratives. You will lead a small, dedicated team, guiding projects from initial concept through scriptwriting, production, post-production, and final distribution across various platforms. This position demands a creative leader with a strong understanding of visual storytelling, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage complex projects within a cultural institution.

Working closely with curators, educators, and marketing teams, you will identify unique stories within PAMA’s archives and current programming, transforming them into impactful cinematic experiences. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive cinematic strategy for Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA).
  • Direct and oversee all stages of film production, including concept development, scripting, pre-production, principal photography, and post-production.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of filmmakers, editors, and production assistants.
  • Collaborate extensively with PAMA’s curatorial, education, and marketing departments to identify and translate key narratives into compelling film content.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources efficiently to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Ensure all film productions adhere to PAMA’s artistic standards, brand guidelines, and ethical considerations for archival material.
  • Research and integrate historical and artistic content from PAMA's collections into film narratives.
  • Oversee the technical quality and creative integrity of all cinematic output, including sound design, cinematography, and editing.
  • Develop and implement distribution strategies for film content across various platforms, including online, in-gallery, and external screenings.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and innovative storytelling techniques in film and digital media.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in film direction and production.
  • Demonstrated portfolio showcasing strong directorial vision and storytelling capabilities.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard film production and editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro).
  • Expertise in cinematography, lighting, and sound recording techniques.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Film Studies, Media Production, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience in documentary filmmaking, archival research, or cultural institution contexts.
  • Knowledge of museum and gallery operations and best practices.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising for film projects.
  • Familiarity with the history and culture of the Peel Region.
