Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Engineering to lead our technical vision and execution in our Summerhill, Toronto office. As a Director of Engineering – Tech, you will be instrumental in guiding multiple high-performing engineering teams, defining our technical architecture, and ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge products that delight our customers. This pivotal role requires a seasoned leader who can blend hands-on technical expertise with exceptional leadership and strategic planning capabilities.
You will be responsible for setting the technical direction, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving scalable solutions across our product portfolio. This includes overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation and design to deployment and maintenance. You’ll work closely with product management, design, and other cross-functional leaders to translate business objectives into robust technical strategies and roadmaps. A key aspect of this role involves mentoring and developing engineering talent, building strong teams, and ensuring a healthy, collaborative, and innovative work environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow multiple engineering teams, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap in alignment with overall business objectives and product vision.
- Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of scalable and robust software solutions.
- Drive architectural decisions, ensuring the scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability of our systems.
- Collaborate closely with product management, design, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications and deliver innovative features.
- Manage engineering budgets, resources, and project timelines effectively to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
- Implement and optimize engineering processes, best practices, and agile methodologies to enhance team efficiency and productivity.
- Act as a technical expert and thought leader, staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, and guiding their adoption where appropriate.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard top-tier engineering talent, contributing to the growth and diversity of the team.
- Ensure technical debt is managed proactively and that engineering practices promote long-term system health.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (Manager or Director level).
- Proven track record of building, leading, and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong architectural design skills and experience building scalable, distributed systems.
- Expertise in modern software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban).
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go, JavaScript) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to drive strategic technical initiatives and deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment.
- Familiarity with data science, machine learning, or AI principles.
- Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
