Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive merchandising strategy aligned with company objectives and market trends.
  • Lead the entire product lifecycle, including assortment planning, buying, pricing, and promotional strategies across all channels.
  • Conduct in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and consumer trend forecasting to identify new product opportunities and drive innovation.
  • Manage and optimize vendor relationships, negotiating favorable terms, ensuring product quality standards, and timely delivery.
  • Analyze sales data, inventory levels, profitability metrics, and customer feedback to inform product development and optimize performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing to develop compelling product launch campaigns, visual merchandising standards, and promotional initiatives.
  • Oversee inventory management to minimize stockouts, reduce overstock situations, and ensure efficient supply chain operations.
  • Mentor, lead, and develop a high-performing merchandising team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage merchandising budgets, P&L, and financial targets, consistently striving to improve gross margins and overall sales performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Present strategic plans, performance updates, and market insights to senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in retail merchandising, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (Director level or above).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful merchandising strategies that significantly drive sales and profitability.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in interpreting complex sales data, market trends, and financial reports.
  • Exceptional negotiation and vendor management capabilities, with a track record of building strong partnerships.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in merchandising software, retail analytics platforms, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Deep understanding of retail operations, supply chain management, and consumer behavior.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or MBA.
  • Experience with e-commerce merchandising in addition to traditional brick-and-mortar retail.
  • Familiarity with the Toronto retail market and specific consumer preferences within the region.
