Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly strategic and experienced Director of Policy – Government to lead our efforts in public policy engagement and government relations. This pivotal role is responsible for developing, advocating, and executing policy strategies that align with our organizational objectives and contribute to positive societal impact. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of the Canadian political landscape, legislative processes, and regulatory frameworks, particularly at the provincial and federal levels. You will serve as a key liaison between our organization and various governmental bodies, stakeholders, and industry associations.

As Director, you will be instrumental in identifying emerging policy trends, analyzing their potential impact on our operations and mission, and formulating proactive responses. This involves extensive research, stakeholder consultations, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable policy positions. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive government relations and public policy strategies.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, providing expert analysis of potential impacts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, policymakers, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead the preparation of policy briefs, position papers, submissions, and presentations.
  • Represent the organization in meetings, committees, and public forums to advocate for policy positions.
  • Advise senior leadership on political trends, policy risks, and opportunities.
  • Manage and mentor a team of policy professionals, fostering their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure policy alignment and integrated advocacy efforts.
  • Identify and engage with strategic partners and coalitions to advance shared policy objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant lobbying regulations and ethical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in public policy, government relations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Canadian federal and provincial political processes and legislative environments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to draft compelling policy documents and deliver influential presentations.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, capable of translating complex policy issues into actionable strategies.
  • Proven track record of successful advocacy and relationship building with governmental bodies.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in research and data analysis for policy formulation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working directly within a government ministry, legislative body, or a public affairs consulting firm.
  • Existing network of contacts within the Ontario provincial and Canadian federal government.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
