Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal care tasks, including hygiene, dressing, and grooming, while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Provide support with meal preparation, feeding, and special dietary needs.
- Administer medication following established protocols and provide medication reminders.
- Aid in safe transfers and mobility, utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Facilitate and participate in community outings, social activities, and recreational programs to promote inclusion.
- Assist with light household duties, such as cleaning, laundry, and organization.
- Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and monitor client progress.
- Accurately document observations, incidents, and daily activities.
- Advocate for clients' rights, choices, and self-determination.
- Offer emotional support, companionship, and foster a positive living environment.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Exceptional empathy and compassion for individuals with disabilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Patience, understanding, and a non-judgmental attitude
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
- Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes
- Willingness to learn and adapt to diverse client needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Service Worker (SSW), or a related human services field
- Valid G Class Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Experience working with individuals with specific developmental or physical disabilities
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Bilingualism (e.g., English/French or other languages relevant to the Toronto community)
