Based in Weston Village, Toronto, this vital role is for those ready to step up immediately following emergencies, natural disasters, or community-wide crises. You will be instrumental in the initial phases of recovery, performing essential physical tasks that lay the groundwork for long-term restoration. In this hands-on position, you will work outdoors in various conditions, often in challenging and rapidly evolving environments. Your day-to-day could involve everything from clearing debris and fallen trees, assisting with the stabilization of damaged structures, setting up temporary shelters or distribution points for essential supplies, to loading and unloading critical aid materials. You will be part of a larger, supportive team, working under direct supervision, but often requiring initiative and a strong sense of urgency. Safety is paramount, and you will be expected to strictly adhere to all health and safety protocols, utilizing provided personal protective equipment effectively. Key Responsibilities
- Perform extensive manual labor including lifting, carrying, digging, clearing debris, and operating hand tools.
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of temporary structures, tents, and safety barriers.
- Load and unload supplies, equipment, and materials from trucks and storage areas.
- Support skilled tradespersons and emergency personnel with on-site tasks as directed.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including waste removal and site tidiness.
- Participate in team briefings and debriefings, following all directives from supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with team members and community members in a respectful and compassionate manner.
