Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct academic and behavioral support to students individually or in small groups as directed by the lead teacher.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and facilitate student participation in classroom activities.
  • Help prepare instructional materials, maintain an organized classroom environment, and manage administrative tasks.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including recess, lunch, and transitions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Observe and document student progress, behavior, and challenges, reporting findings to the teacher and relevant support staff.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning atmosphere for all students.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to support student success.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with children and youth.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning principles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Educational Support, Social Service Worker).
  • Prior experience volunteering or working with children or youth in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Familiarity with diverse learning needs and strategies for inclusive education.
