Job Description

As an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems & Maintenance at Hiring.zycto, you will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our critical electrical infrastructure. This isn’t just a job; it’s an opportunity to apply your expertise in a challenging and rewarding environment, directly contributing to our operational excellence and strategic growth. We are seeking a proactive and highly skilled individual to manage, optimize, and maintain complex power distribution systems, ranging from medium voltage substations to intricate control panels within our facilities in Caerphilly.

Your day-to-day will involve a diverse range of activities, from conducting detailed fault analysis and troubleshooting to implementing preventative maintenance programs that minimize downtime and enhance system longevity. You will be responsible for designing modifications, upgrades, and new installations, ensuring full compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices (e.g., BS 7671, HV Safety Rules). Collaboration is key; you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, production, and project management, to provide expert electrical engineering support for various initiatives. This includes preparing technical specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, and overseeing the commissioning of new electrical assets.

We value engineers who possess a strong analytical mind, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You’ll be expected to develop and refine maintenance strategies, ensuring optimal performance and extending the lifespan of our assets. Furthermore, you will play a pivotal role in safety culture, conducting risk assessments, developing safe work procedures, and promoting adherence to health and safety policies across all electrical operations. This role offers a unique blend of hands-on technical work and strategic planning, making it ideal for an engineer eager to leave a lasting mark on a growing organization. Your ability to communicate complex technical information clearly, both verbally and in written reports, will be crucial in this highly collaborative setting. We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also a natural problem-solver, ready to embrace the dynamic challenges of power systems engineering.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs for electrical assets.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for electrical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Design and specify electrical modifications, upgrades, and new installations in compliance with relevant standards (e.g., BS 7671, HV Safety Rules).
  • Provide expert technical support and guidance for operational teams and capital projects.
  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations related to electrical systems.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, drawings, and documentation for electrical systems and projects.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in power distribution systems (MV/LV).
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection schemes and relay coordination.
  • Proficiency in fault finding, diagnostics, and root cause analysis of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of UK electrical regulations and standards (e.g., BS 7671, Electricity at Work Regulations).
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA systems and industrial control applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
  • Experience with high voltage (HV) authorized person procedures and safety rules.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or energy sector environment.
  • Project management experience for electrical installations or upgrades.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and optimization techniques.

Perks & Benefits
