Key Responsibilities
- Design, review, and approve electrical system plans and specifications for new installations and upgrades.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of new electrical equipment, ensuring adherence to design and safety standards.
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs for power systems and related equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults, failures, and operational issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of electrical infrastructure to ensure compliance with safety standards, operational efficiency, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and supervise maintenance contractors and internal technicians on various electrical projects, ensuring quality and schedule adherence.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and operational procedures for electrical systems and maintenance activities.
- Identify opportunities for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and cost reduction strategies.
- Provide expert technical support and guidance to operational teams regarding electrical safety and system functionality.
- Ensure all work adheres to relevant Health & Safety regulations, national electrical codes (e.g., BS 7671), and company policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience with high and low voltage power distribution systems, including design and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and regulations (e.g., BS 7671, HV/LV safety rules).
- Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities for complex electrical systems.
- Familiarity with power system protection and control philosophies, including relay coordination.
- Competent in using various electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, thermal imagers).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical reporting and team collaboration.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards professional registration.
- Experience with SCADA or other industrial control systems for power system monitoring.
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration into traditional power systems.
- Project management experience in electrical infrastructure projects.
- HV/LV authorized person qualification for switching and isolation procedures.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) for design and documentation.
