Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Electrical Engineer with a strong focus on Power Systems and Maintenance to join our dynamic engineering team in Bestwood, Nottingham. This is a pivotal role for an individual who thrives on ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of complex electrical infrastructure within an industrial or commercial setting. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of our electrical power systems, from design and implementation to routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement.

As an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems & Maintenance, you will play a crucial role in supporting our operational continuity and growth. Your day-to-day will involve hands-on problem-solving, employing your expertise in low and medium voltage distribution, motor control systems, and associated electrical plant. You will lead preventative maintenance programs, ensuring all electrical equipment operates within specified parameters and complies with stringent industry standards and safety regulations, including BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). A significant part of this role involves proactive identification of potential issues, implementing upgrades, and contributing to capital projects aimed at enhancing system performance and energy efficiency. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and modify electrical power distribution systems (LV/MV) and control circuits.
  • Conduct comprehensive routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and fault diagnosis on electrical plant, equipment, and systems.
  • Implement effective repair strategies for complex electrical faults, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational continuity.
  • Lead and support electrical installation and upgrade projects from conception through to commissioning.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant health & safety regulations, electrical standards (e.g., BS 7671, PUWER), and company policies.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, operations, and project teams to integrate electrical solutions and optimize overall system performance.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications, risk assessments, method statements, and project documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to maintenance technicians and junior engineers.
  • Identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and implement sustainable electrical solutions.
  • Manage and maintain electrical schematics, drawings, and asset registers.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial electrical power systems (LV/MV).
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, VSDs, and motor control centers.
  • Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of UK electrical safety regulations and standards (e.g., BS 7671).
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
  • Experience with high-voltage (HV) systems and switchgear operations.
  • Familiarity with power quality analysis and mitigation techniques.
  • Postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in specific sectors such as manufacturing, utilities, or critical infrastructure.
