Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare endoscopy suites and all necessary equipment for various endoscopic procedures, ensuring readiness and sterilization.
  • Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures (e.g., EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP), providing instruments and technical support.
  • Perform meticulous cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of endoscopic instruments and scopes according to established protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Monitor the proper functioning of endoscopic equipment, troubleshoot minor issues, and report complex malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of endoscopic supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and timely reordering.
  • Accurately document procedure details, equipment maintenance logs, and patient information as required.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control, safety, and privacy guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Provide comfort, support, and clear instructions to patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives, team meetings, and continuous professional development.
  • Maintain a sterile field and prevent cross-contamination during procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as an Endoscopy Technician or in a similar clinical role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of endoscopic equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of sterilization, high-level disinfection, and infection control protocols.
  • Ability to perform effectively and calmly in a fast-paced and high-pressure clinical environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, physicians, and team members.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as an Endoscopy Technician (e.g., SGNA, CCST) or equivalent.
  • Experience assisting with a wide range of endoscopic procedures (e.g., GI, bronchoscopy, EUS).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Post-secondary education in a related healthcare field.
