Job Description

Hiring.zycto is on the lookout for a visionary and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead one of our critical software development teams in Leaside, Toronto. You will be responsible for defining technical roadmaps, ensuring architectural integrity, and driving best practices across the development lifecycle. Collaboration is key here – you’ll work closely with product managers, UX designers, and other engineering leads to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver impactful features on time and with quality. Beyond the technical aspects, a significant part of your role will be dedicated to nurturing your team. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, from conceptualization and design to deployment and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver features.
  • Drive architectural decisions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability of software systems.
  • Implement and advocate for best practices in coding, testing, and system design.
  • Manage project timelines, allocate resources effectively, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and support the career development of team members.
  • Actively contribute to the strategic technical roadmap and align team efforts with broader company goals.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration within the team.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in software engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in an Engineering Manager or Lead Software Engineer role with direct reports.
  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and distributed systems architecture.
  • Deep understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum).
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build high-performing engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Track record of successfully delivering complex, high-impact software products in a fast-paced environment.
  • Contribution to open-source projects or active participation in technical communities.
  • Experience in an industry relevant to Hiring.zycto's core business (e.g., FinTech, SaaS, AI/ML).
