Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and meticulous Full-Time Environmental Monitor to join our growing team in Aylmer, Gatineau. This pivotal role offers a fantastic opportunity for an individual passionate about environmental protection and compliance to contribute significantly to our mission. As an Environmental Monitor, you will be on the front lines, ensuring that various projects and operations adhere to environmental regulations, permits, and best practices. Your day-to-day will involve a dynamic mix of field-based assessments and office-based reporting, providing critical oversight that safeguards natural ecosystems.

Your primary responsibility will be to conduct regular site inspections, collect environmental data, and identify potential risks or non-compliance issues. This requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of environmental legislation, and the ability to accurately interpret technical data. You’ll be instrumental in monitoring air quality, water quality, soil conditions, noise levels, and biodiversity, utilizing specialized equipment and established protocols. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in documenting observations, preparing comprehensive reports, and communicating findings to project managers and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular on-site environmental monitoring, inspections, and audits in accordance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Collect and analyze environmental samples (water, soil, air, noise) using appropriate field equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate field notes, logs, and data records, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, summarizing monitoring results, identifying non-compliance issues, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental management plans and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders regarding environmental performance and compliance.
  • Operate and calibrate monitoring equipment, ensuring proper functionality and maintenance.
  • Respond to environmental incidents, participate in investigations, and support mitigation efforts.
  • Stay informed about relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Geography, or a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of practical experience in environmental monitoring or field-based environmental work
  • Proficiency in collecting, organizing, and analyzing environmental data
  • Strong understanding of Canadian environmental regulations and legislation (federal and provincial)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French (bilingualism is a strong asset)
  • Ability to work independently in various outdoor conditions and remote locations
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping and data analysis
  • Certification in specific environmental monitoring techniques (e.g., erosion and sediment control, electrofishing)
  • Knowledge of local ecosystems and species in the Outaouais region
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience with environmental impact assessments
