Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventative maintenance programs to ensure optimal facility performance and longevity.
  • Manage and negotiate contracts with external vendors, contractors, and service providers, ensuring cost-effectiveness and high-quality service.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the facilities team, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies, conducting regular audits and risk assessments.
  • Prepare and manage the annual facilities budget, controlling expenses and identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Plan and oversee office reconfigurations, space planning, and minor renovation projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all facility-related issues and emergencies, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
  • Implement and promote sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve energy efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of facility assets, maintenance activities, and compliance documentation.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in a facilities management role, preferably within a commercial or corporate environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC).
  • Demonstrable experience in budget management and financial forecasting for facilities operations.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • In-depth understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH qualification highly desirable).
  • Exceptional vendor management and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Proficiency in using Facilities Management software (e.g., CMMS/CAFM systems).
  • Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills with a proactive approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Facilities Manager (CFM), IWFM Level 4 Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives and energy management programs.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations specific to Sheffield/UK.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for space planning.
