Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Full-Time Forensic Scientist to join our advanced laboratory team in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a Forensic Scientist, you will be responsible for meticulously examining, identifying, and evaluating evidence such as trace materials, biological samples, controlled substances, and other items submitted from crime scenes. Your work will directly support law enforcement agencies by providing crucial scientific insights that aid in suspect identification, crime reconstruction, and legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical, physical, and biological analyses on evidence recovered from crime scenes using established protocols.
  • Utilize and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, including GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, DNA sequencers, and various microscopes.
  • Document all analytical procedures, results, and observations thoroughly and accurately in laboratory notebooks and LIMS.
  • Prepare comprehensive and scientifically sound reports summarizing findings suitable for legal proceedings.
  • Maintain strict chain-of-custody for all evidence handled, ensuring integrity and proper documentation.
  • Provide expert testimony in court regarding analytical findings, forensic methodologies, and chain of custody.
  • Adhere to quality assurance/quality control protocols and laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 17025).
  • Participate in proficiency testing, internal audits, and ongoing training to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate effectively with law enforcement personnel, attorneys, and other experts in case investigations.
  • Stay current with advancements in forensic science techniques, instrumentation, and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in core forensic laboratory techniques (e.g., trace analysis, serology, toxicology, DNA analysis).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities for complex problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and expert testimony.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy in all scientific work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Certification by a recognized forensic accreditation body (e.g., American Board of Forensic Toxicology, American Board of Criminalistics).
  • Demonstrated experience with specific analytical instrumentation relevant to forensic toxicology, DNA analysis, or trace evidence.
  • Previous experience providing sworn expert witness testimony in state or federal courts.
  • Familiarity with and experience working under ISO 17025 accreditation standards.
