As a Framing Carpenter Helper, you will work closely with skilled carpenters on various job sites across the Greater Toronto Area, primarily based out of our Casa Loma operations. Your day-to-day will involve a diverse range of tasks, from preparing materials and assisting with measurements to safely handling tools and maintaining a clean work environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist journeyman carpenters with all aspects of framing, including measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing wooden frameworks.
  • Safely transport and hoist building materials such as lumber, plywood, and other framing components to and from work areas.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools under supervision, including saws, drills, and nail guns.
  • Perform general site cleanup, including sweeping, debris removal, and organizing materials to maintain a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Learn to read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and specifications as directed by senior carpenters.
  • Help set up and dismantle scaffolding, temporary structures, and other equipment as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Prepare work surfaces by removing old materials, clearing obstacles, and ensuring the area is ready for framing.
  • Take initiative to ask questions, learn new techniques, and contribute positively to team morale.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of construction principles and safety practices.
  • Ability to use and maintain basic hand tools (hammer, tape measure, utility knife).
  • Excellent physical stamina and strength, capable of lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and performing strenuous tasks for extended periods.
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites in the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced carpenters.
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Previous experience on a construction site, even in a general labourer capacity.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a pre-apprenticeship carpentry program.
  • Familiarity with various types of lumber and framing materials.
  • WHMIS and Working at Heights certifications.
