Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Grant Manager – Professional to lead and expand the grant fundraising efforts for the esteemed Vancouver Maritime Museum. As a pivotal member of our team, you will be instrumental in securing critical funding to support the Museum’s diverse programs, exhibitions, educational initiatives, and preservation projects. This role demands a strategic thinker with a proven track record in grant writing, research, and relationship management, capable of navigating complex funding landscapes. You will manage the entire grant lifecycle, from prospect identification and proposal development to submission, reporting, and stewardship, ensuring compliance with all funder requirements. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the non-profit sector, a passion for cultural heritage, and exceptional communication skills to articulate the Museum’s vision and impact compellingly to potential funders. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and cultivate prospective grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other institutional funders.
  • Develop and write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and applications that align with the Museum's strategic priorities and funder guidelines.
  • Manage the entire grant lifecycle, including proposal preparation, submission, tracking, reporting, and stewardship.
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and database, ensuring timely submission of all proposals and reports.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments (e.g., curatorial, education, development, finance) to gather necessary information and data for grant applications and reports.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with program officers and representatives of funding organizations.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial and programmatic reports to funders, ensuring compliance with grant agreements.
  • Conduct post-award grant management, including monitoring project progress, budget adherence, and ensuring proper recognition of funders.
  • Stay abreast of trends in philanthropy, grant funding, and the non-profit sector, particularly within arts, culture, and heritage.
  • Assist in the development of an overarching fundraising strategy for the Museum, integrating grant funding into broader development efforts.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in grant writing and grant management within the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated success in securing significant grants from diverse institutional funders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and clear narratives.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in grant research tools and donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building and maintaining relationships with funders and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Communications, English, Non-Profit Management, or History.
  • Experience working with cultural institutions, museums, or heritage organizations.
  • Knowledge of Canadian philanthropic landscape and granting bodies.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting and budget management related to grants.
  • Certification in Fundraising (e.g., CFRE).
