Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, edging lawns, and weeding garden beds.
  • Plant, cultivate, fertilize, and prune trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plant materials.
  • Operate and maintain various landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and irrigate landscapes, ensuring proper watering schedules and techniques are followed.
  • Clear debris, litter, and other refuse from grounds, pathways, and common areas.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, landscape damage, or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies during all operational activities.
  • Assist with seasonal clean-up efforts, including leaf removal and preparation for colder months (if applicable at end of season).
  • Maintain positive communication with team members and supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in grounds maintenance or a related field (e.g., landscaping, horticulture, parks maintenance).
  • Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on landscaping equipment (e.g., mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers).
  • Knowledge of basic horticultural practices, including planting, weeding, and pruning techniques.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining pristine landscapes.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a horticulture or landscape management program/course.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience with irrigation systems maintenance and repair.
  • Familiarity with local plant species and common pests/diseases in British Columbia.
