Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive compliance programs and policies that align with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance on all compliance-related matters, including corporate governance, data privacy, anti-money laundering (AML), and other regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage the compliance team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of compliance risks across all business functions.
- Design and deliver effective compliance training programs for employees at all levels.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities during examinations, inquiries, and investigations.
- Conduct internal investigations into potential compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor changes in legal and regulatory landscapes, advising senior management on their impact and necessary adjustments to internal policies.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to senior management and relevant regulatory bodies.
- Develop and manage the compliance budget and resource allocation.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or a similar Canadian provincial bar.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in legal compliance, regulatory affairs, or corporate legal roles, with a significant portion in a leadership capacity.
- Profound knowledge of Canadian financial regulations, corporate governance standards, and data privacy laws (e.g., PIPEDA).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and negotiation.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- High level of integrity, professional ethics, and sound judgment.
