As our Corporate Health and Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in safeguarding our employees, protecting our assets, and ensuring our operations consistently adhere to provincial and federal safety regulations. You will be responsible for providing expert advice, guidance, and support to all levels of management and staff, translating complex regulatory requirements into practical, actionable strategies. Your day-to-day will involve conducting comprehensive risk assessments, developing preventative programs, leading incident investigations, and ensuring timely corrective actions are implemented.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs and policies in line with regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard analyses, and workplace inspections to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate all workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and developing preventative strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant provincial (OHSA) and federal health and safety legislation.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all health and safety matters.
  • Design and deliver engaging health and safety training programs to all levels of staff.
  • Manage the Joint Health and Safety Committee, ensuring active participation and effective resolution of safety concerns.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate health and safety records, reports, and documentation.
  • Stay current with best practices, industry trends, and legislative changes in occupational health and safety.

Required Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and regulations.
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing H&S management systems.
  • Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage employees at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or working towards it.
  • University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Experience with safety management software.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
