Key Responsibilities
- Lead guided hiking tours for individuals and groups of varying ages and fitness levels.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants throughout the duration of the hike.
- Provide engaging commentary on local history, wildlife, geology, and environmental conservation.
- Conduct pre-hike briefings, including safety instructions, route details, and equipment checks.
- Navigate trails using maps, GPS, and local knowledge, adapting routes as necessary.
- Administer basic first aid and emergency response when required.
- Maintain hiking equipment and ensure proper usage by participants.
- Promote Leave No Trace principles and environmental stewardship.
- Manage group dynamics and provide an inclusive, positive experience for everyone.
- Complete post-hike reports and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable experience in leading outdoor activities or group tours.
- Strong knowledge of local trails, ecology, and natural history in the Lisgar/Mississauga area.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read maps, use GPS, and possess strong navigational skills.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- Ability to hike moderate to strenuous trails for extended periods.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in dynamic environments.
- Passion for the outdoors and a commitment to environmental protection.
Preferred Qualifications
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) certification.
- Formal training or certification in outdoor recreation, guiding, or environmental education.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to our diverse clientele.
- Experience with diverse age groups, including youth and seniors.
- Valid Class G Ontario driver's license with a clean driving record.
