Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and impartially interpret spoken messages between English and a target language in real-time, maintaining the original meaning, tone, and context.
- Strictly uphold confidentiality standards for all information encountered during interpretation assignments.
- Actively learn and adapt to diverse industry-specific terminology and nuances as required by various assignments (e.g., legal, healthcare, business, community services).
- Collaborate effectively with senior interpreters and team leads, seeking guidance and feedback to continuously enhance linguistic and professional skills.
- Adhere rigorously to established professional ethics, standards, and best practices for interpreters.
- Support organizational administrative tasks related to scheduling, reporting, and client communication for interpretation services, as directed.
- Engage actively in all provided training sessions, workshops, and self-study to continually improve linguistic proficiency, cultural competency, and subject matter expertise.
Required Skills
- Native-level proficiency in English and professional fluency in at least one other language (e.g., Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog).
- Exceptional active listening and comprehension abilities, with a strong capacity to retain and recall information accurately.
- Clear and articulate verbal communication skills in both required languages, demonstrating excellent diction and pronunciation.
- Profound cultural sensitivity and awareness, enabling effective communication across diverse backgrounds and contexts.
- Proven ability to maintain professional composure, accuracy, and neutrality even in high-pressure or sensitive communication situations.
- Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to precision in all interpreted communications.
- Proficiency in using standard office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) for administrative tasks and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary program, diploma, or certificate in interpretation, translation, linguistics, or a related humanities field.
- Demonstrable familiarity with recognized interpretation ethics, standards of practice, and professional conduct guidelines.
- Prior experience in customer service, client-facing roles, or volunteer work involving cross-cultural communication.
- Exposure to or knowledge of specific subject matter areas such as legal terminology, medical concepts, or technical jargon.
