Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, glassware, and instrumentation for experiments.
  • Assist scientists and researchers with various tasks, including sample preparation, data collection, and basic experimental procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, results, procedures, and inventory using established protocols.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance, including cleaning, sterilization of equipment, and proper disposal of chemical and biological waste.
  • Manage and organize laboratory inventory, chemicals, reagents, and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Calibrate and perform basic troubleshooting of lab instruments under supervision.
  • Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety protocols, regulatory guidelines (e.g., WHMIS), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare chemical solutions, media, and reagents accurately according to specified formulas and concentrations.
  • Support the processing, labeling, storage, and retrieval of samples.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding experimental progress, inventory needs, and any encountered issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a science-related post-secondary program (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science).
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting (academic, industrial, or volunteer).
  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, pH meters, pipettes, microscopes).
  • Current First Aid and WHMIS certification.
