Hiring.zycto is seeking a meticulous and dedicated Lab Technician to join our dynamic diagnostic testing team in Balham, London. As a Lab Technician specializing in Diagnostic Testing, you will be responsible for preparing samples, running automated and manual tests, analyzing results, and accurately documenting all findings. Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic tests on biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissue) following established protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting minor issues as they arise.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and culture media accurately and according to specifications.
- Conduct quality control checks, analyze results, and maintain comprehensive records of all testing activities.
- Interpret and report test results accurately and in a timely manner, escalating unusual or critical findings to senior staff.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, laboratory best practices, and relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., UKAS, ISO 15189).
- Manage and organize laboratory inventory, including reagents, consumables, and samples.
- Participate in laboratory accreditation processes and internal/external audits.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory procedures and processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring proper disposal of hazardous waste.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Lab Technician, preferably in a diagnostic or clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and quality control procedures.
- Proficiency in performing a range of laboratory techniques and operating analytical instrumentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Solid organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Competency in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and standard office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- HCPC registration or working towards it.
- Experience with specific diagnostic platforms or specialized testing methodologies (e.g., molecular diagnostics, microbiology, haematology).
- Familiarity with UKAS accreditation requirements.
